1.  implements or promotes initiatives for the protection of the regional hydrological, and aquatic resources, and for the stocking and enhancement of fish populations
2. carries out didactic and/or disseminative activities to spread knowledge and information about fishing and aquatic species
3. carries out and arranges studis and investigations, expressing estimates and assessments about issues such as fishing, ecology, hydrology, protection of aquatic species, etc ...
4. promotes hydrobiological, hichthyiological, and microbiological research studies in relation to aquaculture practices
5. carries out and arranges experimental activities aimed to develop a proper regional legislation related to stock enhancement and the release into natural water bodies of native and eventually alien aquatic species
6. manages design and operation of fishing plants for the farming and reproduction of fishes and other aquatic species
7.  implements collborations with organizations of fishermen and promotes initiatives dealing with protection and surveillance, restocking, environmental issues
8. collects and elaborates annual fishing data
9. periodically takes a census of, and classifies the regional freshwaters to assess the consistency and quality of the fish stocks, expressing opinions about destination and use of different water bodies

10.  supervises, also by means of biological monitoring of waters, the effects of pollution and takes into consideration any possible prevention measure

11.  operates to protect the environment, with particular attention to freshwater ecosystems

To carry out the above mentioned assignments the ETP utilises its own labs, and activbely collaborates with research institutes and universities (OGS, CNR-ISMAR, Università di Firenze, Università di Udine, Università di Trieste, IZSV, ecc ...), as well as with consultants and other qualified experts.
