26 May 2012 WATER FOR LIFE For the twentieth anniversary of the LIFE programme - financial instrument of the European Commission to support environmental and nature conservation - the Ente Tutela Pesca del FVG, the Comune di Rivignano, and the Servizio Caccia, Risorse Ittiche e Biodiversità of the Direzione Centrale Risorse Rurali, Agroalimentari e Forestali of the Region FVG, organize a day to illustrate three LIFE projects. These three projects take place in Ariis and Flambruzzo, Udine (LIFE+ ST.A.R.), in Flambro, Udine (LIFE+ FRIULI FENS), and in the whole Region Friuli Venezia Giulia (LIFE+ RARITY). During the event guided tours of some project sites and explanations about project actions and objectives will be carried out. From 10:00 to 13:00 it will also be available - at the Aquarium of Freshwater Species of FVG, in Ariis di Rivignano, Udine- an info-point to public managers and administratives and to other public subjects where qualified experts will provide news and information about the LIFE instrument and about other financial instruments for the environment (booking and details at: acquario@entetutelapesca.it, tel. +39 0432.774.147).

17 April 2012 ALIENI A PASSO DI GAMBERO (ALIENS AT A CRAYFISH'S PACE) una specie americana invasiva minaccia la sopravvivenza dei gamberi di fiume di casa nostra (an alien crayfish invasive species threatens the survival of native craysfishes). Crayfishes belong to the traditions of Friuli Venezia Giulia (the little town of Amaro, Udine, for example has a crayfish in its own coat of arms), but they are now threatened by the arrival in the region of the Louisiana red swamp crayfish. The “Life RARITY” project aims to tackle its spread also by collaboration and help from institutions, associations and citizenship. These wiil be the issues discussed on next Tuesday 17 April 2012 at 18:00 at the Sezione Moderna of the Biblioteca Civica V. Joppi in Udine during the intrduction of “Life RARITY” to the city of Udine.

5 March 2012 2012 OATH OF THE NEW VOLUNTEER FISH GUARDS The 2012 oath of new ETP Volunteer Fish Guards took place on last March the 5th 2012 in the presence of the Major of the city of Udine prof. Furio Honsell, the Director od the ETP Ing. Paolo Stefanelli, the ETP Mr. Adriano Leoni (representing the ETP President), and the ETP responsible for the surveillance Dr. Massimo Zanetti. The new guards already joined the operating colleagues within the different "collegi di pesca" (fishing areas) in the Region FVG. Pictures and more information at the page in-depth.

18-19-20 February 2012 EXHIBITION The Ente Tutela Pesca of FVG will be present with its own aquaria showing fish species representative of the main regional freshwater bodies, at the event "Pescare 2012" (Fishing 2012) , taking place in Vicenza (Italy) at the trade show pavillons (Vicenza Fairs).
26-27 January 2012 NEL CUORE DELLO STELLA: DIALOGHI ED ESPLORAZIONI (Into the heart of the River Stella: dialogues and explorations) Integrated lab 3, carried out by professors Eugenio Vassallo (renovation), Pierluigi Grandinetti (architectural composition), Federica Di Piazza (economic assessment of the project), takes into consideration the territory of Rivignano, Pocenia, Teor and Bertiolo (Udine, Italy), and its waters, agricultural and natural areas, villas, historical villages, ecc... with the aim to provide added values for cultural and touristic purposes. The final workshop of the lab takes place in Rivignano, and involves students and local communities and institutions. 7 January 2012 OPEN SOURCE SOFTWARE FOR REMOTE SENSING AND GIS APPLICATION ENEA organizes a seminar that will be carried out by Dr Markus Neteler (one of the leaders of the international community of free geographical software). Seminar is titled: "Use of free open source software for applications in the fields of remote sensing and GIS: the toolbox of the project Global Change Biology" (Utilizzo di software open source per applicazioni nel campo del telerilevamento satellitare e dei GIS: la toolbox del progetto Global Change Biology). The seminar will illustrate a wide range of applications achieved by means of the free open source geo-software, such as satellite remote sensing of biophysical parameters, landscape analysis, environmental modeling, and many others ... 8 Novembre 2011 THE OTTER IN FRIULI VENEZIA GIULIA Following a recent finding of an otter specimen in Friuli Venezia Giulia (Northeastern Italy), the ETP Volunteer Fish Guards from ETP Fishing College No. 10, organized a meeting dealing with this very special issues. Invited speaker was Luca Lapini, from the Museum of Natural History of Udine, which is a recognized expert of this species. The meeting took place in Majano (Udine, Italy) on 8 November 2011, and it has been attended also by the ETP Volunteer Fish Guards from ETP Fishing College No. 11. Luca Lapini talked about the biology and ecology of the otter as well as about history of its disappearance from FVG. Furthermore, he showed slides and graphics about signs and paw prints referring to the presence of this important mammal which can be hopefully found by the Volunteer Fish Guards and by fishermen along the regional water bodies.

7 November 2011 MEETING "Cambiamenti climatici in Friuli Venezia Giulia, effetti sul ciclo dell'acqua e sugli ecosistemi" (Climate changes in Friuli Venezia Giulia, effects on water bodies and the ecosystems) - The meeting is addressed to teachers/students of the upper school of the region FVG which will be informed about environmental and scientific research activities carried out by different local institutions and schools. The event takes place within the frame of the "Settimana UNESCO di Educazione allo Sviluppo Sostenibile 2011” (UNESCO week for education to sustainable development 2011), and it received the patronage of the "Ufficio Scolastico Regionale FVG" (Regional School Office FVG), and of the Autonomous Region Friuli Venezia Giulia (Northeastern Italy). 8-11 November 2011 TRAINING COURSE FOR ETP STAFF Within the frame of the European Life+ RARITY project, about the control and the containment of the so-called "killer crayfish" (the Louisiana red swamp crayfish, Procambarus clarkii ), and the protection and stock enhancement of the native crayfish populations in the region Friuli Venezia Giulia, will be organized several training courses aimed to specifically train the ETP staff (and particularly Fish Collaborator and Fish Guard Volunteers). The first of these courses will be held at Aquarium of Ariis facilities during the second week of November 2011. 15 October 2011 MEETING ON CENSUS OF FRESHWATER BODIES IN THE PORDENONE AREA (NORTHEASTERN ITALY) On next Saturday October 15, at 16:00, at the Auditorium della Regione FVG, Via Roma 2, Pordenone, will take place a meeting aimed to present the data from the census carried out by ETP, in collaboration with the University of Trieste, in several freshwater bodies in the Pordenone area. At the meeting will be present: Dr Elisabetta Pizzul (University of Trieste), which directly planned sampling activities, Mr Loris Saldan and Eng. Paolo Stefanelli, ETP Chairmanship and ETP Directorate, respectively; Dr Gianmaria Sigalotti, technical responsible for the ETP fish farming plants, and Dr Giuseppe Adriano Moro, biologist and ETP consultant. During the meeting results from census will be discussed, and issues about the fish fauna, the protection and management of the aquatic environment, the sport fishing activities in the studied area will also be taken into consideration within the frame of the guidelines of the European Directive "Habitat". Sport fishermen and fans of the aquatic environment are kindly requested to participate.

19 September 2011 KICK OFF OF THE PROJECT LIFE/10/NAT/IT/000239/RARITY The Life Rarity project for the containment of the Louisiana red swamp crayfish and the enhancement of the populations of freshwater crayfishes in the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia has officially started. The Ente Tutela Pesca, leader partner of the project, gathered at the aquarium of Ariis all the project beneficiary partners - the "Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale delle Venezie" (Padova), the "Istituto di Scienze Marine" (Venezia), the "Università di Firenze" and the "Università di Trieste" - giving the formal kick off to the intense programme of scheduled activities. The project will end at the end of 2014. Starter srl, consultancy company, located in Padova, which collaborated to the first layout of the project, illustrated the contents and the procedures of the Grant Agreement and of the Partnership Agreement, and sketched out a preliminary schedule of interventions. 7-25 September 2011 EXHIBITION "IL VOLTO GENTILE DELLA PATRIA DEL FRIULI - GIULIETTA E ROMEO" (The kind face of the Friulian homeland - Juliet and Romeo) - Udine, Piazza Patriarcato, Chiesa di S. Antonio Abate, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 19:00, free entrance. Fiftheen photographic panels tell the love story of Luigi Da Porto and Lucina Savorgnan, and explain the Friulian story of Romeo and Juliet.

22 June 2011 THE RARITY PROJECT HAS BEEN ACCEPTED FOR COFINANCING The LIFE+ RARITY project, dealing with the containment of the Louisiana red swamp crayfish in the Region Friuli Venezia Giulia (Northeastern Italy), has been accepted for cofinancing by the LIFE+ Committee. The total budget of the project is equal to € 2.674.744, and the scheduled activities will take place starting from next September.

 

9 June 2011 CLASSIFICATION OF FRESHWATER INVERTEBRATES The CNR-IRSA (http://www.irsa.cnr.it) organizes a "MACROPER" meeting in Rome to give information and details about the "MacrOper System" for the classification of freshwater invertebrates. 14 May 2011 STURGEON SPOTTINGS Finally a good new. Flavio, Cristian and Simone had been fishing cuttlefishes from a 5.5m-long boat, not so far from the mussel floating farming plants in front of the Duino Castle (Castello di Duino, Trieste, Northeastern Italy). All at once they saw a very big fish moving at the surface of the sea. Getting closer to the fish they could notice the typical lateral bony plates and the unmistakable shape of the tail of the sturgeon. The speciman was 2,5-3,0 m long. Talking with friends about the wonderful spot they also knew that in the past week a fisherman spotted another sturgeon in the area (by the Canale Locovaz), which was at least 1.5 m long. It is difficult to say which species of sturgeon have been observed. However, it is unlikely the bigger specimen was Acipenser naccarii, which is usually 1,5 m long and 20 kg in weight.

May 2011 AQUARIUM OF ARIIS AND ITS VICINITY The works for the construction of a multimedia room to give lessons and provide information to the visitors of the Park of the River Stella (Parco dello Stella) and the Aquarium of Ariis have been started. 11-14 May 2011 PROJECTS The Ente Tutela Pesca of Friuli Venezia Giulia participated to the project “LAND and BIODIVERSITY” - “DAY OF THE EARTH”, winner of the prize GREENFACTOR 2011 - category "school", given to the ISIS Arturo Malignani of Cervignano del Friuli within the EOS (Exposition of Sustainability). EOS is a Northeastern Italian event dedicated to the green economy excellences, which took place at the Udine Fair Centre. Go to the in-depth-page.
